Essential Oil For An Anxious Mind

How Can Lavender Essential Oil Benefit Us In A Stressful Time?

In such a stressful world, we all need something to help us relax but how do we de-stress naturally?

There are so many studies coming out in recent years that reveal the benefits of natural and plant-based medicines.

Essential Oils have the least number of studies done in this field. I have found a few articles that have been done on the benefits of essential oils. Let's discuss those studies and how Lavender can help benefit our mind and body.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) doesn’t regulate essential oils. Scientists have started showing an increased interest in the benefits of essential oils especially since they are growing in popularity over the recent years.

The lavender plant has so many benefits for our bodies and our minds. There are a lot of teas on the market the use lavender and chamomile to help you sleep or relax. Lavender has many amazing benefits, many are underrated.

When diluted in a carrier oil, lavender essential oil can be applied to the skin to help relieve many skin issues. Lavender may help balance out moisture levels in your skin. It has anti-inflammatory properties, can reduce redness, and is a natural moisturizer that can repair dry skin without making it too greasy.

Did you know that lavender essential oil may help treat pain with its analgesic and anti-inflammatory properties?

Lavender has been compared the pain relief benefits of highly addictive pain medications such as Tramadol according to an article by Healthline. A 2013 article studied how lavender oil can ease migraines. Lavender could also lessen acne, help lighten skin, and reduce wrinkles when applied to the skin.

How can lavender help relieve anxiety? According to many other studies done in Europe and Korea, the smell of lavender caused the chemicals linalool and linalyl acetate can produce sedative effects in mice and humans. These chemicals are responsible for the scent of lavender.

Linalool and Linalyl Acetate can influence the parasympathetic nervous system which controls bodily processes associated with anxiety, such as heart rate, breathing rhythm, and hormone secretion. Lavender can help in regulating these processes in your body by restoring a neutral state by lowering the heart rate, adrenaline levels, and slowing the breath.

Lavender has been used for centuries to ease and treat many different ailments. Scientists are doing more research into essential oils. So far, all the studies done on this herb have verified the validity of using lavender to help with sleep, anxiety, skincare, and dietary needs, which is amazing news. I am excited to see more research on the benefits of this amazingly versatile plant.
